Expanding transportation mobility options to persons with disabilities. HAYWOOD PUBLIC TRANSIT Purpose Our purpose is to provide transportation to persons with disabilities (temporary or permanent), visual impairments, and other limitations. With expanded hours and services, New Freedom Program will be available to provide access to independent living. (Travel examples might include: bingo, employment opportunities, visiting shut-ins, grocery shopping, banking, salons or barbers, and going to the library.) Remaining Independent with New Freedom Transportation is taken for granted by most but can be difficult for seniors or disabled individuals. Due to life’s circumstances, many find themselves dependant on others for their transportation needs. Friends and family are not always available. New Freedom gives independence to its passengers and provides the opportunity to safely travel to and from home.  Who Qualifies for the New Freedom Program? Individuals with qualifying limitations may benefit from New Freedom services. Scheduling Travel arrangements should be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance whenever possible. Last minute requests may not be met due to unavailable resources. Public transportation is a coordinated service which may involve riding with others. Payment When you call to schedule transportation services, any applicable fee will be determined at that time. If a fee is required, you will need to pay the boarding fare to each driver. Exact change is needed as drivers do not carry cash.
