Compensatory Education

Compensatory Education is a community college program for adults with mental retardation or adults functioning on a level equivalent to mental retardation resulting from brain injury. 

Program goals - To help the individual acquire basic and life skills needed to function successfully in daily living:

  • by becoming independent and self-directed
  • by becoming and active participant in the community through work, socialization, home life, and faith community

Eligibility Criteria - To be eligible to participate in the program, an individual must be age 17 or older, and

  • Diagnosed with mental retardation or
  • Functioning on a level equivalent to mental retardation  resulting from head injury or brain damage

  • ESL English-as-a-Second Language – classes for adults who want to learn the English language skills necessary to function effectively in an English-speaking environment.
