- All Students applying for financial aid at HCC must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the federal processor. The paper FAFSA is available at high schools or at Haywood Community College. Once the paper application is submitted, you should receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) back from the federal processor within four weeks. As an alternative, students may apply over the internet at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov. Assistance in completing the FAFSA is available by contacting the Financial Aid Office. Applications submitted via the Internet are processed at a much quicker rate than the paper applications. Students may also bring their completed FAFSA to the Financial Aid Office for electronic filing.
- Once the FAFSA has been processed and the applicant receives his/her SAR, he/she should review the SAR and make any necessary corrections through the FAO. If all information on the SAR appears correct, students should maintain the document for their records. All schools listed on the FAFSA should receive the SAR information electronically.
- The FAO at HCC will notify all students whose information has been received electronically regarding their status. Once all necessary documentation has been received by the FAO, the student will be notified of his/her eligibility. Federal or state grant recipients are required to participate in a Financial Aid information session online at www.haywood.edu/facts_and_faq and complete the online quiz.
- A student whose SAR information has been received by HCC will be considered for all Federal, State, and Institutional aid available at the time of application.
Students must apply every year for financial aid. The FAFSA for the upcoming year is available in the Financial Aid Office after January 1st of each year. Because the completed applications should be as accurate as possible, students and parents are encouraged to complete their prior year federal tax forms before completing and submitting the FAFSA. Errors and discrepancies require re-submission of information and consequential delays.
