  • What Is Career Planning?

    An Academic & Career counselor provides free assessments and counseling to assist current and prospective students in evaluating their skills, interest, abilities, and aptitudes. Appointments may be scheduled for individual assistance with career assessments.

  • What Career Planning Assessments Are Available?

    Career Assessment Information Sheet (PDF) (DOC).

    • Assessment inventories such as Bridges, Career Scope, Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator, Self-Directed Search, Learning Styles, and WorkKeys (WIN) that assist students indentify interests, values, and personal qualities;

  • What Is Involved In The Career Planning Assessments?

    The Career Scope is an assessment inventory used to assist a student in choosing a career. It uses the student's interest, and aptitude to create a list of possible careers to match the student's profile. Following the assessment testing, a career counselor interprets and discusses the assessment with the student. One tool used in the counseling process (wincareers.com) provides comprehensive occupational and educational information. Resource materials are available in the career counseling office.

    Additional self-assessment inventories are available such as Self-Directed Search, Bridges, Learning Styles, and Myers-Briggs type indicator to assist students identify interest, aptitude, skills, abilities, values, and personal characteristics. Work value self assessments such as Work Keys (WIN) are available to assist students and evaluate work value skills for a given career choice.

    The college provides career counseling for students that have the ability to take an online work value assessment (WIN) inventory. Contact the Academic & Career Counselor at careers@haywood.edu to be given a login and password for the work value assessment. The career counselor will interpret scores and may discuss the results via email confirmation. Career resources are available online to assist individuals with specific careers, training opportunities, labor market information and career skills.

  • How Do I Get Started With Career Planning?

Counselors are available both by appointment or drop-in through out the day and are also on duty four evenings per week. Drop ins are encouraged. Call (828) 627-4503 prior to visiting the office to ensure that a counselor will be available.

  • What If I Am Undecided about A Career or Program of Study?

    Career planning assessments will help students clarify where they are in the career planning process and assist them toward identifying and achieving their education and career goals.

  • How Do I Contact A Career Counselor?
