Mission Statement
The mission of HCC's Career Counseling office is devoted to promoting and assisting students (prospective and enrolled) and alumni with the career planning process to develop and achieve their future career goals. Assessment services are provided to help students identify interest, job skill sets, career readiness, personal characteristics, and work values as they relate to an academic program of study or the world of work. To accomplish this mission, the responsibilities of the career counseling office include:
- provide resources for career planning
- assist students in discovering and developing self-knowledge relating to careers and the world of work
- career counseling to discuss the outcomes of the assessments
- assist students in developing career plan
Outcomes
- Improved student awareness of career options through assessment and counseling based on interest, values, and skills
- Reduced number of students changing majors
- Improved self-awareness of students
- Increased number of students utilizing career services
- Students develop and implement a career/education plan
Haywood Community College provides career planning services within the Education & Career Development office located in Student Development Services. These services are designed to assist students who are undecided about career plans. The office offers a variety of resources designed to assist individuals who are at any stage of the career planning process. Career counseling and various assessment tools in both print and computerized formats are used to help individuals explore personal interests, abilities, personalities, and work values in evaluating appropriate career choices. Further information is available with regard to labor market information and job search skills.
Counselors are available both by appointment or drop-in through out the day and are also on duty four evenings per week. Drop ins are encouraged. Please call (828) 627-4503 prior to visiting the office to ensure that a counselor will be available. Appointments may be scheduled for individual assistance in career assessments by calling (828) 627-4646
