Success Story: Keith Cooley

Meet GED Graduate, Keith Cooley and his learning community - Instructors Ernest Lee, Carla Woody and Joan Rivet. Cooley's story demonstrates how a strong partnership between student, Instructor and Institution drives student success.

Mr. Cooley withdrew from public school in 1977; yet, through hard work and determination had carved out a healthy living for himself. Despite his seasoned skill-sets, Cooley found himself unemployed and unemployable in 2012. After being turned down for a job with a local business due to not having a high school diploma or the equivalent, Cooley enrolled in HCC's GED program.

"Keith was a very determined student," said Ernest Lee...and this sentiment was echoed by Cooley's other instructors. "Keith took advantage of every learning opporuntiy we threw at him," says Carla Woody. He attended daytime, evening, took work home, etc. "When the doors were open, Keith was there and ready to learn," Lee said.

Exactly four months after making that initial phone call to Adult Ed Recruiter, Tina Masciarelli, Cooley received his official GED diploma in the mail. CONGRATULATIONS from everyone in your learning community! You were a pleasure to work with and we wish you much continued success, The Adult Education Department
