Program Advisory Committees
An important first step toward establishing any occupational program or upgrading an existing one, is the organization of Lay Advisory Committees. It is regarded as the "life blood" of the program. The group should be composed of local educators from the secondary and post secondary schools and industry representatives from management, the plant, and the service trades who are familiar with and interested in the community situation. A complete list of HCC's Advisory Committees and their membership is on file in the office of the Vice President of Academic and Workforce Development.
- Purpose
- The Advisory Committee provides a link between the College and community through which its activities may be coordinated. Advisory committees counsel and advise the institution regarding the improvement of occupational programs, in an effort to more adequately meet the needs of the community. Their sensitivity to the daily needs of the local industry can provide effective interchange of information vital to both college and employers. Advisory Committees help to determine the community's interest in training and upgrading vocational and technical personnel by counseling with the College on suitable standards for equipment and instruction. They can help in the development of courses of study and assist in the selection of students and instructors. Their most constructive activity is to build interest in occupational education and promote support of the new programs.
