Holly Lemieux - An Advocate for Change
“HCC was my compass, giving me the direction I needed to go in. I had never had that before,” explains Holly Lemieux, Executive Director of ARC of Haywood County.
Holly Lemieux has made it her mission to help people with disabilities fit into society. She is Executive Director of the ARC of Haywood County where she supervises dozens of social change agents in Haywood County. She knew early on that she would need education to make these changes happen. She also knew she would need more than just a GED.
Lemiuex turned to Haywood Community College. “I was familiar with HCC. It was close to home and affordable,” she explains. “It fit around my life, enabling me to maintain my schedule of working and being a mom. HCC was my compass, giving me the direction I needed to go in. I had never had that before. It was a great experience. What it did for me was invaluable. You can’t put a price on it.”
She received an Associate in Arts degree from HCC in 2000 and continued her education at Western Carolina University. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in Social Work in 2002. Lemiuex was named HCC’s Outstanding Alumni for 2006.
