Education & Career Development Services

Mission/Outcomes


The Haywood Community College Office of Education and Career Development endeavors to provide students and faculty with a variety of counseling and support services.  

The E.C.D.C.seeks to identify and reach target populations within specified geographic territory to meet enrollment goals for all academic programs.   

  • Promote all of Haywood Community College’s programs within our service area; only unique programs outside our service area.
  • Organize and facilitate presentations featuring our faculty to provide information to High School classes and other groups.
  • Travel to college fairs to exhibit and share information about our programs.
  • Assist the Public Information Officer to develop publications to use in presentations to prospective students.
  • Facilitate the transition of new students into the college through campus tours and orientation programs to prepare them for educational opportunities.
  • Educate new students about the intellectual, cultural, and social climate of the college.
  • Advise Dual enrollment and Special Credit students of course choices that will enhance job performance and/or apply to a future degree.


The Haywood Community College Office of Education and Career Development assists students with successful progression through all phases of career development.  Students are encouraged to explore career options and develop goals through learning about themselves and the world of work.

  • Assess student aptitudes and interests to identify possible career choices and personal preferences that lead to ultimate career success and happiness.
  • Provide educational and occupational resources and materials to aide in the career decision and job search processes.
  • Establish strong, positive relationships with local businesses and industry and other external constituents to promote employment of Haywood Community College students and graduates.
  • Collect and disseminate information to students about local job openings and application procedures.
  • Prepare students for suitable employment by developing their job search knowledge, presentation skills and understanding the fit of their individual competencies with job requirements.
