Haywood Community College will host the closing ceremony for Hispanic Heritage Month on Friday evening, October 12, from 7-11 p.m. in the HCC Auditorium.
The event will feature two Mexican dance groups, Ballet Folklorico de Asheville, Dance Group; Chile Lindo, Dance Group. This event follows a month-long calendar of events that took place in Jackson, Macon, Swain, and Haywood counties. The events have included such activities as a Mexican Independence Day Celebration, an evening of Salsa dancing, a best salsa recipe contest, a multicultural fair, and a Latin coffee and tea tasting.
Hispanic Heritage Month began on September 15, the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Since 1968, the President of the United States has issue a proclamation, calling on all people of all cultures to recognize and celebrate the history, culture and innumerable contributions of Hispanic people in our nation.
