Haywood Community College’s 2008 graduation ceremonies will be held on Thursday, May 8 and Friday, May 9 at 7 p.m. Both events will take place on the Clyde campus in the Charles M. Beall Auditorium, Student Services Building. Over 375 certificates, diplomas, or degrees will be awarded this year from HCC.

Due to limited space and the increased number of graduates participating, two separate graduation ceremonies will be held this year. The Thursday, May 8th ceremony will include graduates of the following programs of study: Arts & General Education (Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, Associate in General Education, & GOT), Film & Video, Health Professions (Nursing & Med Asst), and Business & Entrepreneurship (Accounting, BA, CIS programs).

The Friday, May 9th ceremony will include graduates of the following programs of study: Natural Resources (Horticulture, Fish &Wildlife, Forestry, Geospatial, Pulp &Paper), Professional Crafts, Early Childhood, Cosmetic Arts, Criminal Justice, and Advanced Technologies.

Rebecca Anderson , former Executive Director of HandMade in America and current consulting business owner, will be the commencement speaker. Anderson is a Canton High School graduate who attended Salem College and graduated from Western Carolina University. She held various professional positions such as coordinator of Buncombe County Child Development, community development director of Land-of-Sky Regional Council, downtown development director for the City of Asheville, and director of economic development for the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce.

Anderson has been awarded Outstanding Young Woman of the Year, Boss of the Year by the North Carolina Social Services Association, and North Carolina Distinguished Woman of the Year Nominee for Buncombe County.

Master Teacher of the Year Award will also be presented at the ceremony. The Master Teacher Award is a distinguished teaching award presented to the full-time curriculum faculty member who most exemplifies excellence in teaching by demonstrating consistently excellent teaching, leadership, and service to the College and the community. The recipient is the College's nominee for the annual North Carolina Community College System/First Union Foundations Excellence in Teaching Award.
