Haywood Community College’s 2010 graduation ceremonies will be held on Thursday, May 13 and Friday, May 14 at 7 p.m. Both events will take place on the Clyde campus in the Charles M. Beall Auditorium, Student Services Building. This year marks a record number of certificates, diplomas, or degrees awarded with a total of more than 470. Also a first for HCC, 10 Haywood Early College students will receive their high school diplomas and a two-year college transfer degree at Thursday’s ceremony.

Due to limited space and the increased number of graduates participating, two separate graduation ceremonies will be held this year. The Thursday, May 13th ceremony will include graduates of the following programs of study: Advanced Technologies, Arts & General Education, and Business & Entrepreneurship.

The Friday, May 14th ceremony will include graduates of the following programs of study: Creative Arts, Health & Human Services, and Natural Resources Management.

North Carolina Career Readiness Certificates have been awarded to around 140 students and graduates in the last year. This certification is a portable credential that promotes skills and career development for individuals and confirms to employers that they possess basic workplace skills in: Applied Mathematics, Reading for Information, and Locating Information. It is based on the ACT WorkKeys system, a nationally recognized EEOC-compliant industry-driven system of job profiling, assessment and instructional support. These certificates are signed by the governor of North Carolina.

Master Teacher of the Year Award will also be presented at the ceremony. The Master Teacher Award is a distinguished teaching award presented to the full-time curriculum faculty member who most exemplifies excellence in teaching by demonstrating consistently excellent teaching, leadership, and service to the College and the community. The recipient is the College's nominee for the annual North Carolina Community College System Excellence in Teaching Award.

The 2010 HCC Outstanding Alumni Award will also be presented at one of the ceremonies. The Outstanding Alumni Award is given annually to a Haywood Community College Alumnus who has attained distinction and success in his or her career field or through community service.
