Haywood Community College will hold a Demo Day which will encompass renewable energy technologies including Biodiesel, Wood Gasification, and Solar. The free event will be held on Wednesday, January 19 at 2 p.m. in front of the lower level of the Student Success Services Building.
James Nowack will be discussing and displaying Wood Gasification Technology. Essentially, wood gasification is converting a biomass (wood, feedstock, etc.) to a useable fuel in everyday engines. The engine runs just as if it was using gasoline except that the exhaust is much cleaner. As a result of this demo; a large, bright flame erupts.
In addition, there will be a BioDiesel display to explain the process used to create biodiesel including stages of reactions. A solar hot water heater will also be part of the event.
For more information about the Demo Day, please call HCC Sustainability Technician Preston Jacobsen at (828) 565-4033 or email pjacobsen@haywood.edu.
