Haywood Community College will be hosting an orientation and registration session for area high school students interested in pursuing dual-enrollment opportunities through the Career and College Promise.  Orientation sessions will be held on Monday, December 19 at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. in the HCC Auditorium. Advisors will be on hand throughout the session to answer questions.

This January the Career and College Promise program will begin, replacing dual enrollment, Huskins, and learn and earn online initiatives, as the way for high school students to earn college credit tuition free. Career and College Promise provides seamless dual enrollment educational opportunities for eligible North Carolina high school students in order to accelerate completion of college certificates, diplomas, and associate degrees that lead to college transfer or provide entry‚Äźlevel job skills.

Only students who are Juniors or Seniors as of January 2012 are eligible to enroll for college classes under Career and College Promise for the spring semester, but anyone who may be interested in earning college credit while completing high school is encouraged to attend the orientation session to find out more about the curriculum offerings and admission requirements.

Matt Heimburg, HCC’s High School Programs Transition Coordinator, states, “The Career and College Promise program provides an exciting opportunity for HCC to offer high school students the ability to earn free college credit now and to reduce the amount of time it will take to complete their college degree in the future.”
