Prospective students are encouraged to complete the application process as soon as possible. Student Services staff are available to answer questions about the application process, financial aid, or any of HCC&rsquo;s more than 45 programs of study. Student Services hours are 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Fridays.</p> <p>Registration for summer semester 2008 is Wednesday, May 21 from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. Classes for the 10-week session begin on Thursday, May 22. Classes for the 8-week session begin on Friday, June 6.</p> <p>Basic and advanced Machining Classes will be offered this summer in the Advanced Machining Center at the Regional High Technology Center. Students completing the four basic machining classes, Blueprint Reading, Metrology, Machining and Introduction to CNC will qualify for a Certificate in Machining Technology. An opening reception ceremony will be held Saturday, May 24 from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. The juried exhibit contains sculptural, utilitarian, and decorative objects in textiles, metals, wood, jewelry and clay. The Folk Art Center is the <span>home of the Southern Highland Craft Guild. It is </span>located in at 382 Blue Ridge Parkway in Asheville. Hours for the gallery are 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.&nbsp;</p> <p>This exhibit marks the professional debut for many exhibiting craftspeople. It will feature work from 22 graduating HCC students in weaving, jewelry, pottery, and woodworking. Most of the exhibition pieces are for sale. The college makes involvement in the installation, organization, and publicity of this exhibit part of the coursework for HCC professional crafts students. Catharine Ellis, HCC fiber instructor, says, &ldquo;For some of our students, this exhibit is their first chance to show their best work on a professional level. The students have been working diligently to get ready for this show.&rdquo;</p> <p>The HCC Professional Crafts Program is a two-year commitment, focusing on all aspects of becoming an independent craft professional. In addition to sharpening their technical and artistic skill in their chosen medium, students also create a marketable line of production work, plan a studio, and become familiar with the craft market. The event will be held on the HCC campus. The symposium and knife show includes an American Bladesmithing Workshop at a cost of $55. On Saturday, March 15, the knife show and auction will be open to the public beginning at 1 p.m. free of charge.</p> <p>Demonstrators for the event include: James Crowell, blade design, forging, grinding, and heat treating; James Batson, Damascus Steel; Greg Neely, handles, guards, fit and finish; B.R. Hughes, ABS knife judging; Carolyn Hughes, promotion and advertising; Tommy McNabb, jigs, fixtures, and silver sheaths; Bill Wiggins and Len Landrum, youth and beginner hands-on blade forging; Daniel Warren, pocket knives; Rick Love, leather sheaths; and Col. Tim Ryan, auctioneer.</p> <p>A $500 scholarship to the ABS School in Old Washington, Arkansas will be given to a paid participant.
