HCC to Host 2008 Mid-Atlantic STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® Collegiate Challenge
Haywood Community College and the HCC Lumberjacks will host the 2008 Mid-Atlantic STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® Collegiate Challenge sponsored by STIHL® on the college campus on Saturday, April 12.
Five teams will compete in woodsmen's Conclave events throughout the day including: pole climb, axe-throw, men and women's crosscut saw, single buck saw, underhand chopping, water boil, archery, and log rolling among others.
Haywood's lumberjacks and jills will square up against rivals Penn State Mont Alto, Montgomery Community College, Allegany College of Maryland, and Penn College of Technology. At 12:30, one student competitor from each team will participate in the STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® Collegiate Challenge to vie for a place in the STIHL® Intercollegiate TIMBERSPORTS® Championship this summer in Columbus, Georgia. In 2007, HCC Forestry student Jay Blackburn took home top honors winning a spot in the 2008 STIHL® professional series.
Conclave events kick off at 9:00 a.m. with Dendrology and Archery events and continue throughout the day. Lunch can be purchased through The HCC Wildlife Club. For more information and information on participating as a co-sponsor of this event, please contact Bob Pinkston at 828.627.4563.
