Media Literacy
North Carolina Standard Course of Study - Information Skills Grades 9-12
With new forms of media transforming the way young people learn, educators need to integrate media literacy across the curriculum from kindergarten through college. As students have grown up in the world of the Internet, educators need to teach them the fundamentals of media literacy, or the ability to access, analyze, evaluate and produce communication in a variety of forms. By learning how to ask probing questions, students can understand the political, social and economic implications of media messages and develop strategies to use media effectively. Like traditional literacy, media literacy involves critical thinking, analytical skills, and the ability to express oneself in different ways.
