The family of Haywood Community College benefactor Bernice Tiers Medford recently gave the college a painted portrait of Ms. Medford. Medford was a strong supporter of the college for many years and passed away in July of this year. She is the founder of the Bernice Medford Scholarship. Nineteen students have benefitted from the scholarship since it began in 1996. Ms. Medford was also a major contributor to the Regional Center for the Advancement of Children located on the HCC campus. The Toddler Center is named in her honor.

“Ms. Medford believed in HCC and wanted to help the college in every way possible,” says Meg White, HCC Director of Institutional Advancement. “Not only did she help with scholarships but she also supported the student ambassador and mini grant programs. HCC is a stronger college thanks to her generous gifts."

Ms. Medford’s portrait is displayed in the lobby of the Student Center.
