FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

GED GRADUATION SCHEDULED AT HCC

In a newly initiated winter ceremony, Haywood Community College’s 2002 GED Graduation Ceremony will be held on Friday, January 25, at 7 p.m. in the HCC Auditorium, Student Services Center.

A record number of 137 students successfully completed the GED requirements compared to 87 last year. The marked rise in GED graduates is due to a new format for GED testing which will begin in February. All old test scores became invalid when a new battery of tests was introduced in January.

Special recognition will be given by partner agencies of the Adult Basic Skills program. The Adult Basic Skills division enrolls approximately 1,000 students annually. The programs include GED preparation, basic math and English instruction, compensatory education and English as a second language instruction.

A reception for graduates, family, and friends will immediately follow the graduation ceremony. If snow and inclement weather force cancellation of the above date, the graduation ceremony will be held on Friday, February 1.
