FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Governor Hunt to Address Litter Summit at HCC
On Friday, March 3, Haywood Community College will be the site of a regional summit addressing litter problems in Western North Carolina. A panel of experts will make presentations of the latest information on how to tackle waste and litter problems in the western region of North Carolina.
Governor James B. Hunt, Jr. is scheduled to make a presentation of his Clean NC 2000 challenge at 8:45 a.m. The Litter Summit Steering Committee hopes that as the western communities rise to the challenge residents will not only clean up the roadsides of North Carolina but will also take the opportunity to learn about environmental and health problems caused by illegal dumping.
The purpose of the Litter Summit is to bring decisive people together to make, change, and enforce the litter and illegal dumping laws in Western North Carolina. Representatives from all 28 counties in the Governor’s Western Region have been invited to attend. State, county and local law enforcement officers, representatives of each level of government, judges and the District Attorney will have the opportunity to exchange information pertaining to the enforcement and prosecution of violators relating to litter and illegal dumping.
The public is invited to attend.
