Chain saws will be buzzing and the sawdust flying as 5 college teams vie for the number one spot in the STIHL Timbersports Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Competition on Saturday, April 13. The event will be held at Haywood Community College and will begin at 9 a.m. Events will continue throughout the day and will end around 6 p.m.
The Collegiate Series travels to college campuses across the country with the ESPNU, Outdoor Channel and TUFF TV cameras to seek out the best amateur athletes and has grown from five participating schools to nearly 60 in the last 11 years.
“We are thrilled to host the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series Mid-Atlantic Qualifier as part of the annual Mid-Atlantic States Intercollegiate Woodsmen’s Meet,” said Blair Bishop, Program Coordinator, Forest Management Technology, Haywood Community College. “Being able to showcase our forestry program on a national level really means a lot to our school and our community.”
“We have seen many great competitors come out of Haywood Community College and we’re excited to bring the 10th anniversary season of the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Collegiate Series to their campus,” said Brad Sorgen, producer of the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series. “The Mid-Atlantic region always delivers a very exciting competition and we look forward to a great event.”

Participating colleges include Haywood Community College, Pennsylvania College of Technology, Penn State Mont Alto, Montgomery Community College, Allegany College of Maryland, West Virginia University, Penn State University and Danby Lancaster College.
ESPNU, Outdoor Channel and TUFF TV cameras will be on site to capture the competition.
