HCC Electrical Technology Students Install Electronic Sign at Fairgrounds

Haywood Community College Electrical Technology students recently did the wiring for a new electronic sign at the entrance of the Haywood County Fairgrounds. Steve Kirton, HCC Electrical Technology instructor says the college has a long standing relationship with fairgrounds. Over the years, HCC electrical technology students have worked on several fairgrounds’ projects including improving wiring in the large metal building, and installing new lighting outside of Building A. Currently they are working on the installation of a back-up generator, all free of charge.

According to Steve Kirton, working on projects such as this is a win-win deal for his students. “The fairgrounds belong to the citizens of Haywood County, as does the college,” he explains. “It’s a great way for these students to apply what they have learned in the classroom while giving back to the community.”

What these students do is very beneficial,” explains Ted Norman, Chair of the Building and Grounds Committee for the Fairgrounds ‘ Board of Directors. “The electrical technology students are great to work with and they do a super job.”
