HCC Holds Scholarship Recognition Event

Haywood Community College recently held the annual scholarship recognition event on the college’s campus. The event, sponsored by the HCC Foundation, celebrates the generosity of donors and the students who have a desire to succeed.

For the 2008/09 academic year, more than 102 scholarships were awarded totaling over $131,800. Forty percent of the students who applied received a scholarship. Many of the 128 students receiving a scholarship find that it is the only way possible for them to attend college.

Following are the 2008/09 scholarships with student recipients:

Established in 2007 to assist students in the Professional Crafts – Fiber program.

Aylor Webb Memorial Scholarship

Established in 1978 to honor the memory of Aylor Webb, a graduate of the Sawyer Program at Haywood Technical Institute.

Betty Jo Nichols Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2005 by Tommy Nichols and Barbara Woody.

Bryan Edwards Scholarship

Established in 2003 by Mark and Kathy Trantham in memory of their son, Bryan, who was a student at HCC.

Established in 2007 by Jim Redmond to assist Nursing students who plan to work in Haywood County after graduation.
