Just three and a half months after beginning classes at Haywood Community College, seven Phlebotomist students graduated this new fast-track JobsNOW course on January 7. These accomplished graduates are Jessica Casey, Patricia Norman, Darlene Propst, Shealah Rhodes, Danielle Smith, LaDonna Stroupe, and Brandon Taylor.

In addition to medical training and certifications, these professionally certified students have acquired WorkPlace Readiness Skills as identified by the state of North Carolina. These WorkPlace Skills prepare students to hit the ground running to search for a job, obtain and keep a job, and advance in their careers.

Their career portfolios now include professional résumés, medical certificates, WorkForce Readiness certificates and nationally-recognized Career Readiness Certificates (CRCs) in either gold, silver, or bronze achievement levels.

In addition these students are certified in Applied Mathematics, Reading for Information, Locating Information, Listening, Observation, Teamwork, Work Ethics and Behaviors, Professional Image, Communication, Work Style Understanding, Customer Service, and Positive Work Culture.

In class, the students learned and practiced job-seeking skills, interview techniques, and tools to build positive relationships with patients and co-workers.

Clinical experience of 100 hours gave these new Phlebotomists valuable on-the-job experience and the opportunity to practice and improve their skills in drawing blood, documenting patient records, and working with other professionals.

Prospective employers of these students will have added confidence in the demonstrated skills and knowledge of these graduates.
