Haywood Community College will open a Therapeutic Massage Student Clinic beginning February 4. The clinic will be open to the public on Thursdays and Fridays each week from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. The cost of the clinic is $45 for a 1 ½ hour massage, $30 for an hour massage, and $15 for a half hour massage. Clients are encouraged to make an appointment. A faculty supervisor is always present at the student clinic.

According to Autumn Woodward, HCC Therapeutic Massage instructor, “The student clinic provides our students with a valuable opportunity to refine their skills through working on people from the community. Students learn to assess tension and pain patterns and have a chance to apply the specific treatment techniques they are learning in the program. Working with actual clients allows students to see the powerful benefits massage can have in reducing muscular tension, promoting relaxation and encouraging healing. This experience prepares graduates to serve the community as skilled, professional and caring massage therapists.”

“I have fibromyalgia but when I go to the student clinic for a massage, I have a short period of time when I’m pain free and that’s a rarity for me. Other massages did not do that for me,” explains Sharon Davis, HCC Early Childhood program manager and instructor. “Helping the students is why we’re all here. To receive comfort and relaxation at the clinic while helping students is a double winner.”

The HCC Therapeutic Massage Clinic is located in the 800 Building on campus. To schedule an appointment, please call 828-565-4191.
