Haywood Community College was recently recertified as an Advanced Emergency Medical Services Education Institution. HCC has retained this status for many years and will be evaluated again in 2016. The recertification process is conducted through the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services.

“As an advanced institution, HCC can provide continuing education and refresher courses of all levels of training from medical responder up to paramedic,” explains Tonya Clark, HCC Coordinator of EMS. “To be certified as an advanced institution, there is an extensive application process. All the college’s manuals, policies and procedures, as well as credentials on all instructors who work in this area are reviewed. It is a tedious process.”

“Tonya spent a lot of time and effort putting together the college’s plan and obtaining all the documents for this accreditation,” says Dee Parton, HCC Director of Continuing Education & Workforce Development. “She was an asset during this process and should be commended for all the work, time, and effort she puts into the EMS program.”

Coming soon, HCC will offer online EMT Basic Refresher and EMT Paramedic Refresher courses. For more information about these upcoming courses or other EMS courses offered at HCC, please call Tonya Clark at 627-4617 or email tsclark@haywood.edu.
