Haywood Community College recently celebrated the completion of the first weekend Certified Nurse Aide I class. The course is a short term training that prepares individuals to work as caregivers in a health care setting such as a nursing home, hospital, or home health care. Students attend 162 hours of instruction, 48 clinical hours and 114 classroom hours, taught by a registered nurse. This course is approved by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation.
According to HCC Allied Health Coordinator Sandy Fischer, "There was a definite need for a weekend class that would allow potential students to work and still train to be a CNA I." The college will offer this option on an as needed basis.
Upcoming Nurse Aide I classes include: Monday & Wednesday, 8:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. beginning August 20 through December 3; Tuesday & Thursday, 8:15 a.m.to 2:45 p.m. beginning August 19 through December 4; Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday, 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. beginning August 19 through December 8; and Thursdays from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. and Saturdays, 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. beginning November 6 through February 28.
