HCC to Celebrate County’s Bicentennial with HCC-The Early Years Event

In celebration of Haywood County’s Bicentennial, Haywood Community College will hold HCC-The Early Years event on Friday, February 29. The event will be held in the Charles Beall Auditorium beginning with social hour and light refreshments at 6 p.m. and the show starting at 7 p.m. An inclement weather date has been set for Saturday, March 1.

HCC-The Early Years will offer a historic and humorous look at life at the college during the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. The audience will hear behind-the-scenes stories told by the instructors, staff, and alumni who lived the parts.

Hosted by Dean McMahon and Linda Caldwell, the show will be filmed live by HCC Film and Video Production students. On stage representing the 60s will be Barbara Baity, Betty James, Dot Wood, LJ Moore, Bill Rhodarmer, and Wanda Winecoff. The 70s will include Gary Clontz, Catharine Ellis, Arch Gregory, Wayne Raab, Jan Camp, Nick Nichols, Dwain Perry, Leslie Smith, and Terri Taylor. From the 80s, David Burnette, Dave Dudek, Rick Lindsay, Janice Gilliam, and Jim Summers will share their memories.

The show will include the following faculty, staff, and friends on film: Jack Brodhage, Shirley Gaddis, Ted Darrell Inman, Bill Seibert, Tony Gaddis, Sue Morgan, Sam Wiggins, Sherry Martin, Sue Booker, and Teresa Melton. Alumni representing each decade will share their insights on student life. These participants include: Jimmie Cochran-Pratt, Donna Forga, Doyle Justice, Ron Lance, Ronnie Mills, Steve Sorrells, Donna Troutman, and Ronnie Pepper.

Admission is free but seating is limited. Reserve tickets by calling, (828) 565-4173 or 627-4521. Tickets will also be available at the door while they last.
