National Entrepreneurship Week is February 18 through 25 and Haywood Community College is celebrating this with a week-long schedule of events. These events will allow HCC to focus on the college’s strengths in the areas of entrepreneurship, sustainability and creativity.
Following is a schedule of events:
Date: Monday, February 20, 2012
Event: Showcase for Student Entrepreneurs
Location: HCC Library
Time: 12:00-1:30 p.m.
Prize: $200 for first place
$100 for second place, and
$50 for third place
Facilitator: Meredith Carpenter, Entrepreneurship Instructor
Audience: Open to the public.
Summary: A chance to pitch your idea to other faculty, staff, and students and win big bucks to help start your venture!
Date: Tuesday, February 21, 2012
Event: Give a Dynamite Speech: Sharpen Your Presentation Skills
Location: Student Center Auditorium, First Floor
Time: 6:00-8:30 p.m.
Facilitator: Andrew Sanderbeck
Audience: Open to the public.
Summary: Topics include tips for developing powerful, dynamic and persuasive presentations, ways to overcome stage fright and to control your nerves, create an awareness of your individual strengths and weaknesses in delivering presentations to help you to be more successful each time you present understanding the importance of effective use of appearance, voice and body language, and three techniques to create your connection with the audience quickly and effectively.

Event: Learn from the Sequoyah Fund and Local Business
Owners How to Finance Your Business and Succeed
Location: Student Center Auditorium, First Floor
Time: 3:00-4:00 p.m.
Facilitator: Michelle Choate, Business Administration Instructor
Audience: Open to the public.
Summary: Staff from the Sequoyah Fund will be on hand to discuss this opportunity for Community College students to win start-up funds for their business ideas. Winners from the past two years will be represented or be on hand to tell their stories about winning and growing their businesses. There will also be local business owners in the automotive industry and in creative arts that will answer questions about how they financed their business and the importance of cash flow.

Event: Salon Ownership Forum
Location: Student Center Auditorium, First Floor
Time: 3:00 -4:00 p.m.
Facilitator: Denise Finger, Cosmetic Arts Instructor
Audience: Open to the public.
Summary: A panel of professionals in the Cosmetic Arts industry of local entrepreneurs will be present to share their years of experience, and questions about the industry and their professional success.
Date: Friday, February 24, 2012
Event: Meet the Benjamins Haywood Early College Activity
Location: Room 201
Time: 1:30-2:30 p.m.
Facilitator: Meredith Carpenter, Entrepreneurship Instructor
Audience: Haywood Early College Students.
Summary: Freshman Haywood Early College students will have the opportunity to participate in a hands-on entrepreneurship activity, Meet The Benjamins.
