HomeTrust Bank and the HCC Foundation Sponsor Four Students to Serve as Ambassadors

Haywood Community College has selected four students to represent the college as Student Ambassadors for the 2011-2012 academic year. As student ambassadors, Susan Beck, Stacy Bentley, Jackie Cole, and Amy Smathers will act as liaisons between HCC and the community and in return receive wages and invaluable experience that will help them in their future professional endeavors. The Student Ambassador program is made possible this year with funding from HomeTrust Bank and the HCC Foundation.   

The student ambassador activities are varied and include conducting recruitment activities such as campus tours, participating in special campus events, making presentations at local high schools, speaking to community businesses, and assisting during registration. In addition, ambassadors are active in making contact with the college’s alumni. 

Beck is enrolled in the Medical Assisting program. She lives in Sylva and finished HCC’s phlebotomy course. She volunteers at Hazelwood Family Medicine. After graduating from HCC, she would like to work in a medical office. She participates in the Yoga Club and the National Society of Leadership and Success. Beck enjoys spending time with her four year-old daughter.

Bentley is enrolled in the Forestry Program. She quit a corporate job as a project manager and sold her house to move here to attend school at HCC.  Stacy is very involved at the college. She is a work study student for the Continuing Education Department, a representative for the Society of American Foresters, Vice President of the Forestry Club, member of Phi Theta Kappa, was a graduation marshal last year, is a member of the quiz bowl and dendrology team for the woodsmen’s team, and is a tutor in the Teaching and Learning Center. She enjoys spending time with her nine year-old son and hiking.         

Cole is enrolled in the Medical Office Administration program. She lives in Haywood County. After graduating from HCC, she would like to work in a hospital in coding, billing, and insurance. She is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success. She enjoys spending time with her children and grandchild.

 Smathers is an Accounting student. She lives in Haywood County and works part-time for a Certified Public Accountant. She may continue her education after finishing HCC and continue working for an accountant.

The student ambassador program offers potential students and members of the community a first-hand perspective of the college and student life. In addition, the ambassadors learn a lot along the way.
