FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Nursing Assistants Graduate from HCC
Haywood Community College through its Continuing Education Program recently graduated 5 Nursing Assistant II students. Graduates of this program are eligible to apply for listing as a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing Aide Registry. The students completed 160 hours of instruction that included 80 hours of clinical work. Sharon Maney, RN, instructed the class.
The Nursing Assistant II course prepares graduates to perform more complex skills for patients or residents. All students take a written test and undergo a skill-competency evaluation before graduation. Most students can expect an upgrade in pay upon completion of the five-month course. Graduates may be employed in homes, hospitals, clinics, doctor’s offices, nursing homes and extended care facilities.
Persons wishing to enter the program must meet the following requirements. They must have a high school diploma or GED, currently be listed as a Nursing Assistant I and worked in the field for at least one year. They must also provide a documented letter of reference. For more information on HCC’s Nursing Assistant II program, contact Terri Taylor at 627-4617.
