Policy 5.2: HCC Student Newsletter

Haywood Community College (HCC) shall recognize the publication of a student newsletter as a function of the HCC Student Government Association and as such, the newsletter and resources used in its publication and distribution shall adhere to all applicable NC Board of Community Colleges, North Carolina Community College System Office and HCC Board of Trustee policies, rules, and regulations. The College President shall appoint faculty/staff advisors to the student newsletter. The advisors are responsible for working with the HCC Student Government Association to ensure adherence to the terms of this policy and to develop and administer associated procedures, which must first be approved by the College President.
Purpose
The purpose of the student newsletter is raise awareness among the HCC student population of ongoing and upcoming HCC campus related activities, events, and announcements from HCC recognized (sanctioned) student organizations and clubs, departments and program areas, the HCC Foundation, and from the HCC administration.
Content
- The students and faculty advisor(s) are ultimately responsible for the content of this publication.
- The newsletter will be distributed on the HCC campus. Funding for the student newsletter will come through student activity fees in accordance with rules on the use of such fees.
- Any changes to these guidelines must meet with the approval of the faculty advisor(s) and the college President.
Action
Failure to comply with the terms of this policy shall result in due process review and may result in termination of the student newsletter. Procedures for due process shall be developed by the Student Government Association, the student newsletter advisors, and the Vice President of Student Development Services and approved by the College President.
