  1. Probation Period Procedure

Haywood Community College is an affirmative action, equal employment opportunity employer that does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, age, disability, political affiliation or national/ethnic origin.

The college issues probationary contracts ninety (90) days in length to new employees and to existing employees who enter a new position as a result of any type of personnel action (promoted, transferred, or demoted). The college may place a contracted employee on a probationary contract of varying lengths during any period when an employee’s performance deems such action.

The probationary contract shall specify the duration of the probationary period, the performance standards to be met, and how they will be measured. During the probationary period, an employee may be terminated at will. At the conclusion of the probationary period and upon the recommendation of the immediate supervisor, the president may issue the employee a standard contract, an extended probationary contract, or no contract.

A probationary period does not apply to the re-employment of employees.
