Procedures

  1. Secondary Employment Procedure

Effective Date: Tue, Nov 08, 2005

Pursuant to and as required by North Carolina Administrative Code (NCAC), approval is required from the Board of Trustees of Haywood Community College in advance of any secondary employment of the College President.

In addition and as required by NCAC, full-time employees of the College are to consider the position to which they are employed as their primary employment; any other employment in which that person chooses to engage in is secondary. Full-time employees must inform the College through the appropriate channels and gain approval of the President (or designee) before engaging in any secondary employment as defined below:

Secondary employment would not be permitted when it would:

  1. Create either directly or indirectly a conflict of interest with the primary employment.
  2. Impair in any way the employee’s ability to perform all expected duties to make decisions and carry out in an objective fashion the responsibilities of the employee’s position.

Secondary employment includes, but is not limited to, self-employment working as a consult, selling goods or services, teaching at another college or university, or working for any other private or public entity; i.e.: any employment generating IRS reportable income. Secondary employment is any employment which occurs during the working hours of the employee’s primary employment or any work that would create a conflict with the employee’s primary job responsibilities.
