Procedure 4.5.2: Faculty Overload & Special Assignments
A division chair, when he or she deems it necessary, may request in writing an overload contract for a faculty member for additional instructional duties provided the faculty member’s regular employment responsibilities (instructional plus additional duties as required and/or assigned by the division and/or department chair) are being fulfilled. A regular load for a semester is determined by the faculty member and his division and/or department chair within the work load guidelines in effect at the time. The Vice President of Academic Services and the division chair shall decide whether it would be better for a lecturer, an adjunct instructor, or a full-time faculty member to perform these additional instructional duties. Only upon the written authorization of the Vice President of Academic Services may a full-time faculty member be offered a teaching overload. Compensation for an overload shall be set at the adjunct instructor rate. All overloads for pay shall be authorized by the Vice President of Academic Services. Team leaders, department chairs, and division chairs are not eligible for overloads.
