Procedure 6.4.1: Communicable Diseases
Effective Date: Tue, Jun 12, 1990
Amended Date: Tue, May 13, 2008
The procedure shall be as follows for students and staff members who have been medically diagnosed as having a communicable disease.
- Upon notification that a student or staff member has a communicable disease, an advisory committee will be established to propose the best course of action to be taken. The committee will consist of the student or staff member's personal physician, the local public health director (or designee), HCC's Vice President of Student Services, and the President of HCC (or designee).
- The advisory committee will be formed within one week (7 days) of the student's or staff member's notification to the College.
- The advisory committee shall propose an appropriate course of action based upon the best and most current information available on communicable diseases.
- A re-evaluation may be called by any advisory committee member. Grounds for re-evaluation must be based upon health factors. Such factors include those which could affect either the infected student/staff members or other members of the HCC student body or staff. Steps for re-evaluation will follow those outlined in items 2 and of this policy.
- Confidentiality must be strictly protected by the College for all students and staff with communicable disease. Only the advisory committee and the HCC Board of Trustees should be notified of the individual's condition.
