Cackleberry Mountain - Small Business Success Stories
Cackleberry Mountain is a store that makes the offering of unique, different, and hard-to-find items its trademark signature. Amid one-of-a-kind antiques and artistically arranged displays, customers find delight in a shopping experience that becomes more of an adventure than a chore. From a touch of the nostalgic to a bit of the whimsical, the shop is filled with an array of unique treasures, each one handpicked by the owners, Nina Snow and Debby DeLucchi. Even the name of the shop,“Cackleberry Mountain,” is a testimony to the creativity of the owners. They chose the name based on similar childhood experiences.
Cackleberry is another name for an egg. When Snow was a child, her mother raised chickens and sold eggs. DeLucchi’s grandmother did the same.
The store first opened for business in November of 1999. And even though Snow, with her genteel charm, and DeLucchi, with her effervescent personality, make running the business look easy and fun, they will be the first to tell you that it is also a lot of hard work. The two women first met with Sharron Donnahoe, HCC’s Small Business Center director, who suggested they attend a series of seminars offered through the Small Business Center.
Delucchi said that attending the seminars helped them get focused. “We could see what steps we needed to take. The suggestions and expert advice we received have proven invaluable. I still have my notes from the classes and even now refer back to them sometimes,” Snow said. As you are traveling toward Balsam, stop in and say hello to Nina and Debbie and see for yourself what they have to offer!
