Haywood Community College is implementing an Advanced Manufacturing accelerator for the purpose of utilizing the skillsets obtained by alumni, current students and prospective students through multiple curricula and continuing education offerings.
Project AMI will provide a “maker space,” equipped with the technology and equipment needed to create projects using manufacturing techniques such as machining, welding and 3D printing. The AMI facility provides a safe and resourced space where aspiring entrepreneurs can develop and manufacture products without the high start-up costs of their own facility.
Additionally, the services of HCC’s award-winning Small Business Center are inextricably linked to the facility.
Through project AMI, Haywood Community College hopes to spawn multiple business and employment in high-skill/high wage manufacturing.
Accelerator equipment at launch will include:
- Vertical Milling Machine
- CNC Lathe
- Manual Lathe
- 3D Printer (2)
- Vertical Press
- Surface Grinder
- Multi-process Welder (2)
- Plasma Cutter
- Horizontal Band Saw
- Vertical Band Saw
- Assorted Smalls: Tooling and Supplies
