Notary Public Course Overview and Requirements
This course covers the qualifications, procedures, and certification for becoming a notary. Pursuant to the NC Notary Act, to apply for commissioning as a notary you must meet the following qualifications:
- You must be 18 years of age or older and a legal resident of the U.S.
- You must be able to speak, read and write English.
- You must have a high school diploma or equivalent to a high school diploma
- Be an NC resident or have a regular place of work or business in N.C.
Upon completion of this course with a passing exam grade of 80%, a person is eligible to complete the Notary Application G.S. 10B-6 and submit their application to the NC Secretary of state office for review. The required textbook, 2016 Notary Public Manual for North Carolina is part of the course cost and may be picked at the Public Services Training Facility with proof of payment. Students are encouraged to read through the textbook prior to attending the course. Students must present a current photo ID to be admitted to class.

The first Saturday of each month a class will hold from 9am to 6pm on the following dates:

Cost: The course is $100 and the cost includes the required text, 2016 Notary Public Manual for North Carolina.
Required Textbook: Please pick up your textbook, having proof of payment, at HCC’s Public Services Training Facility.
