Continuing Education for EMS and Prehospital Personnel

Monthly courses are held at the local fire departments within Haywood County. Please call (828) 565-4103 to learn more information on course dates and times. Students in the Continuing Education for EMS and Prehospital Personnel program will gain knowledge in the following subjects:

  • EMS worker carrying supplies​Anaphylaxis
  • Blood borne Pathogens & Infectious Diseases
  • Cardiac Emergencies 
  • Documentation & Refusals
  • Environmental Emergencies 
  • Hazardous Materials Review
  • Lifting and Moving Patients Safely
  • Medical Emergencies
  • Obstetrical & Gynecological Emergencies
  • Patient Assessment
  • Pediatric Emergency Care
  • Respiratory Emergencies & Airway Management​​

 

EMS Certification Training

Medical Responder Course

  • GED/HS Diploma or successful completion of a reading comprehension evaluation  at a 10th grade level

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Initial Course:

  • A minimum of 24 hours of field rotations required
  • GED/HS Diploma or successful completion of a reading comprehension evaluation  at an 11th grade level

 

Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) Initial Course:

  • A minimum of 96 hours of clinical/field rotations required
  • GED/HS diploma required
  • Physical exam, Immunizations, Drug Screening, and Criminal background check required
  • Successful completion of the following evaluations at the 12.9+ level:   reading comprehension, language, and total mathematics

 

Paramedic Initial Course:

  • A minimum of 340 hours of clinical/ field rotations required
  • GED/HS diploma required
  • Physical exam, Immunizations, Drug Screening, and Criminal background check required
  • Successful completion of the following evaluations at the 12.9+ level:   reading comprehension, language, and total mathematics

Continuing Education for EMS and Prehospital Personnel

  • Monthly courses are held at the local fire departments within Haywood County.

 

ONLINE BLS and ALS Continuing Education for EMS and Prehospital Personnel

  • Monthly courses are held online for BLS and ALS level EMS and Prehospital personnel.  Credit hours are granted upon successful completion of course requirements.  A great way to catch up on those required CE hours!  Please  email HCC-EMSTraining@haywood.edu to be added to our monthly email list.

 

ONLINE Critical Care Continuing Education for EMS and Prehospital Personnel

  • Monthly courses are held online for Critical Care level EMS and prehospital personnel. Credit hours are granted upon successful completion of the course requirements.  To be added to this list, please email:                                      

 

CPR/First Aid/ACLS/ACLS EP/PALS

  • Community First Aid and CPR classes are held the third Wednesday of every month from 6-10 PM at Haywood Community College’s West Waynesville Training Facility located at 23 Hendrix Street, Waynesville NC 28786, accross from Walmart.
  • HCC is Haywood County’s American Heart Association Training Center.
  • PROFESSIONAL CPR classes held monthly as well.

AMLS/PHTLS/PEPP

  • AMLS/PHTLS/PEPP courses scheduled on a regular basis throughout the year
