Margaret Studenc has been the brains and leader of LSS since 2009. She has many strengths including creative innovation, quick wit, and a strong passion for helping people. She tutors in grammar and English. Margaret has been teaching since 1985, which means that she is “old as dirt.” In addition to teaching, she has worked for a newspaper and worked in multiple administrative positions in higher education at both the community college and four-year levels. Studenc’s bachelor’s and master’s degrees are in English from Western Carolina University. She has been at HCC since 1999, and she tells her students, “This is my dream job.” Her favorite things to do include reading, spending time with her family, and shopping.
Jessica Sluder is the Testing Technician for Learning Support Services. She is responsible for proctoring tests and working with instructors to provide a smooth testing process. Jessica Sluder has her AAS from HCC in Fish and Wildlife Management Technology and a certificate in Forest Management. She has worked as a naturalist, educator, and outreach coordinator for Balsam Mountain Preserve. Working in LSS allows her to help students along their journey which is her passion. Jessica enjoys spending time fly fishing and hiking with her husband, birding, and cross stitching.
