What is Twitter?

Twitter is a real-time social network where users send and receive short bursts of information called "tweets." Tweets are messages of less than 140 characters in length and can contain text only, links to web pages, or links to photos. For more information please see the official Twitter fact page.

How does the LRC use Twitter?

We use Twitter in a variety of ways to keep our patrons and community members informed about library services, library and HCC news & events, and larger issues in librarianship and academics. Some examples include:

  • Campus weather & closing alerts
  • Campus & LRC news & events
  • Changes in library hours
  • Computer lab reservations
  • Notable new books in our collection
  • Patron notification (by request)
  • Library service updates

Do I need to sign up?

You do not need a Twitter account to view our profile page or the profile pages of other Twitter users. Click on any of our Twitter links or icons and you can view the LRC Twitter page and a real time list of our tweets. However, you will need to sign up for an account if you wish to follow the LRC and receive automatic updates from our Twitter feed or if you wish to use Twitter for any of our library services.

How can patrons and community members use Twitter?

In addition to receiving updates from our Twitter feed followers of the LRC may use their Twitter accounts to:

  • Request a hold
  • Place an Interlibrary Loan request
  • Receive notifications for the arrival or status of requested materials
  • Find out due dates or fine amounts
  • Suggest a purchase
