RECEPTION GIVEN TO HONOR HAROLD LONG
Harold Long was recently honored at a reception on the Haywood Community College Campus. Many friends, family members and colleagues attended the event which celebrated Long’s thirty years of service to the college as a Trustee and his active involvement in the community.
Dr. Nathan Hodges, president of HCC, presented Long with HCC’s "You Make a Difference Award." The award was designed and produced in HCC’s professional crafts program under the direction of Gary Clontz, HCC pottery instructor, and Wayne Rabb, HCC woodworking instructor. The award consists of two pieces of pottery– a plaque and a mug–and a wooden display base.
In his comments, Hodges commended Long’s many contributions to HCC including his efforts on the behalf of the college in arranging the donation of the Dayco Union Hall to HCC. During his time at HCC, Long served as Chairperson of the Personnel Committee and was Chairman of the Board of Trustees from November 1993 through October 1995. He also served on the HCC Foundation Board of Directors for over five years.
Rolf Kaufmann, HCC chairman of the Board of Trustees, presented Long a resolution honoring him with the title of "Trustee Emeritus."
A scrapbook of pertinent newspaper articles pulled from HCC’s Learning Resource Center’s archives was also given to Long.
