DISTANCE EDUCATION CLASSES OFFER ALTERNATIVE TO TRADITIONAL CLASSROOM HOURS
Haywood Community College continues to expand its number of telecourses and Internet courses designed for individuals whose work and family responsibilities won’t allow them to attend to attend traditional classes. Two new courses, Voices in Democracy (POL 120-10) and Spreadsheet I (CIS 120-110), have been added for Spring Semester 2000.
Voices in Democracy is an American Government telecourse recently completed by DALLAS TeleLearning. Students will acquire a general knowledge of national government, understand the significance of the U. S. Constitution, and learn how problems are solved through intergovernmental relations. The videotaped segments will also help those in the course develop knowledge about the potential for individual involvement in the political community and understand the relationship between government and individual liberties.
The Voices in Democracy programs also include interviews with leading scholars and politicians and on-site footage of politics in action. Dr. Michael Germano will be the instructor.
Spreadsheet I is a new Internet course created by HCC instructor Carol Paxton. This course introduces basic spreadsheet design and development. Topics include writing formulas, using functions, enhancing spreadsheets, creating charts, and printing.
Except for the required on-campus orientation session, students will work on their own and can send their assignments to Paxton from anywhere in the world via the Internet.
HCC will offer twelve telecourses and three Internet courses on a variety of subjects such as Art Appreciation and General Psychology for the Spring Semester.
All telecourse and Internet course students are required to attend an on-campus orientation session.
Spring semester registration is Thursday, January 6 from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. For additional information and a complete schedule of HCC telecourses and Internet courses, call HCC Student Services at (828) 627-4500 or visit the HCC Distance Education web page: http://potemkin.haywood.cc.nc.us/gened/disted.
