HCC RECOGNIZES SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS AND DONORS
Haywood Community College recently held a reception honoring scholarship recipients and donors for the current academic year. Donors of both internal and external scholarships were recognized. Dr. Nathan Hodges spoke of the prevailing community pride at HCC as he welcomed the attendees. "HCC has a caring faculty and staff, they are here to support and advise you. They are the keys to your success as students" Hodges said.
Patty Cope, Coordinator of Financial Aid says the reception was so successful she plans to make it an annual event. "This was my first opportunity at HCC to organize this event. I felt it was an excellent opportunity for scholarship recipients and donors to meet. It is very important for a scholarship recipient to know who is assisting them and have an opportunity to express their appreciation. Likewise, this type of event is often the only opportunity a donor may have to meet the recipient in person. It really helps them see just what a significant difference they are making by providing the assistance."
David Hester, representative for Carolina Power and Light Company, praised the college for its growth and vision for the future. "I encourage the students at HCC to take advantage of this fine institution and its multitude of resourceful programs."
According to Cope, 106 students at HCC received scholarships during 1997-1998. So far, this year 88 scholarships have been awarded. These scholarships include awards made by HCC and outside organizations.
