FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
HCC WINS NATIONAL MARKETING AWARD
The National Council for Marketing and Public Relations awarded Haywood Community College with a 2000 Paragon Award in the category, Promotion Campaign for a Special Event. The announcement was made at the NCMPR national conference recently held in Portland, Oregon. The Paragon Awards is an annual competition which recognizes excellence in communication exclusively for two-year colleges. This year, the competition included almost 1,500 entries from community colleges all over the nation.
The winning entry, edited and designed by Debra Davis, HCC’s Coordinator of Marketing and Public Information, was used to promote the 1999 HCC Foundation Annual Fund Drive. Drawing upon HCC’s active community involvement and its many years of service to the area, the theme of the promotion campaign was "Weaving the Fabric of the Community." Printed pieces were produced using illustrations from the professional crafts weaving program at the college. The main brochure featured a piece of hand-woven cloth produced by HCC’s weaving instructor, Catherine Muerdter. Haywood Community College was the only community college in North Carolina to receive this recognition for 2000.
