HCC OFFERS MANUFACTURING CERTIFICATION
Haywood Community College will offer a new manufacturing certification program starting this fall.
Approved by the National Association of Manufacturers, the Level I certification program is designed to enhance workplace performance and provide new career opportunities in the manufacturing sector.
The 96-hour program includes courses on manufacturing concepts, measurements and math, problem solving, and teamwork and communications. Students may also choose two elective courses from Statistical Process Control, the Business of Manufacturing, Blueprint Reading, and Computers and Manufacturing.
A research committee, formed by The North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS), developed the Manufacturing Certification Program with the assistance of North Carolina manufacturers, national associations, and by examples of other state programs. Level I training has been in development for two years, and Level II certification training, which will provide industry specific skills training, is still in process.
Kirk Smith, Instructional Specialist at HCC, has received training in preparation for teaching this program. The program can be taught at the manufacturing site as well as on the HCC campus at the Regional High Technology Center.
Classes begin this fall. For more information or to pre-register please call Joe Looney at (828) 452-1411.
