HCC Counselor Receives Doctoral Scholarship
Robert Stewart, Coordinator of Counseling & Special Services at Haywood Community College, was honored recently at a scholarship dinner and reception held on the campus of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
Stewart, who is currently attending UTK as a full-time student in the doctoral program in Higher Education Administration, was selected by the faculty of the Higher Ed. department to be the recipient of the Billie Cannon-DeMont Graduate Scholarship.
This $2,500 award is presented each year to the doctoral student in Higher Education Administration who most demonstrates excellence in scholarship, a sensitivity to current social problems, and possesses a high degree of leadership potential.
The scholarship was formed in 1995 upon the untimely death of Billie Cannon-DeMont at the age of 43. Dr. DeMont was a graduate of the UT Doctoral program in Higher Education and was a tireless advocate for excellence in higher education. Her family established the award to encourage and continue the outstanding scholarship and leadership ideals that Dr. DeMont so passionately championed.
Robert plans to utilize the scholarship funds to assist with educational expenses during the course of his advanced studies.
