HCC Natural Resources Students Venture Into the Everglades
Natural Resources students from Haywood Community College ventured into the wilds of Florida on what has become a traditional annual trek to the Everglades. For several years, HCC Forestry Instructor John Palmer has taken a group of students for a ten-day study tour of the Everglades. With the help of mini-grant funds, several students receive scholarships to help with the expenses of the trip.
The trip is an intense learning experience for all of the students as they are exposed to a variety of plant life, animals and activities indicative of the area. From airboat rides in the Everglades to helping pick up trash at the Florida Keys National Wildlife Refuge, every day is filled with exciting hands-on learning experiences.
