HCC Woodworking Graduates Shine at National Competitions
Two recent graduates of Haywood Community College’s Professional Crafts Woodworking program recently participated in national woodcraft competitions.
Terri Cadman’s music stand was one of 15 accepted U.S. entries in a national competition, "Hold That Note" for New Design for Music Stands at Wharton Esherick in Pennsylvania. Her work won Best of Show award and for Members Choice award.
Cadman was the first woman to win an award in this competition since it started and the first person ever to win both awards in the same show.
She also had a Bench made out of Sycamore in "The Chair" Exhibition at the Worcester Center for the Crafts in Worcester, MA. Pictured are Cadman’s Bench and music stand.
Brian McGee’s rocking chair was one of 65 finalists and one of two community college entries in the International Woodworking Fair held August 21. The fair is a student competition for graduates and undergraduates held every two years.
Cadman and McGee were both 2002 HCC graduates. For more information about the Professional Crafts programs at HCC please contact student services at 828-627-4500 or 1-866-Go To HCC or visit www. haywood.edu on the Internet.
